But at some point, all the professionals will go back to their respective homes, to live their own lives. It is only we who will live in our own bodies and will be guided by our own thought processes 24 hours a day, everyday, for our entire life. It is only we who can feel, adjust, and understand the unique aspects of our own body and mind. Ultimately, to realize our full potential and achieve all our realistic goals, we must enter the realm of self-reliance—anything less will be limiting.
All those who have mastered their respective fields know well the status of self-reliance—to see oneself, to improve oneself, to restore oneself, to heal oneself, to strengthen oneself, to protect oneself, to teach oneself, to trust oneself, to respect oneself, to chose and decide for oneself, to befriend oneself, and to find the truth for oneself. Those who have fully realized their potential and uniqueness have all done so from a position of self-reliance.
For many people, relying on others is a lifelong habit. For the truly successful in all of life, relying on one’s self is paramount. The path to a person’s true purpose is always through self-reliance.
It is a scientific fact that the mind controls the body. It is also a fact, that the reverse is true—the body can rejuvenate and energize the mind. In all of Olivia’s classes, at a certain point, the instruction translates into self-reliance, and the energy to maintain it and excel is likewise transmitted.
Olivia’s personality: friendly, lighthearted, sociable, and sensitive, may seem to disguise the process. Nevertheless, the process occurs—achieving greater self-reliance.
Olivia Sheldon Barnett began her passion for fitness and health at an early age. At 15, Olivia became a Black Belt in Karate and continued on her fitness passion path: teaching kickboxing, aerobics, women's self-defense classes, and working at a Cardiac Rehabilitation Center. In 1999, she earned her Yoga Teacher Certification.
From her own experience and inspiration, Olivia created Positive Energy Yoga®. She has spent the last two decades teaching in the Washington D.C. area in corporate settings, gyms and to private clients. She specializes in catering to each individual’s unique needs and enjoys a playful, light-hearted approach to the practice.
After many injuries from years of wear and tear, and after receiving a diagnosis of hypermobility (explaining many aches and pains), Olivia transitioned to a new-found appreciation of fitness, health and yoga. Less is more. Balance is best.

Positive Energy Yoga is a creative exercise program that caters exclusively to the uniqueness of each person. Because each person is unique, Positive Energy Yoga, different from most systems, was not designed to "force" anyone to achieve fixed or predetermined positions, but was designed to achieve optimum results consistent with each person's ability and comfort.
Many yoga systems are descendants of bygone eras and cultures, and were created under certain conditions for certain reasons and philosophies. Many new systems are combinations of old systems. Positive Energy Yoga has been created for our present culture--the times and circumstances we live in today, and for the people who, each in the scope of their own environment, will shape the future.
In Positive Energy Yoga, it is not the instructor or teacher that is the focus, and not the system itself that is the focus; it is each individual in attendance who is most important, and upon whom the focus is given.
With individuality as the trademark for Positive Energy Yoga, no one is ever compared to anyone else. No one is ever wrong. No one is ever better than anyone else. Everyone is performing their own yoga relative to their own body, their own needs, and their ability. In Positive Energy Yoga, each person assumes the best position they can at each point in time, and in that moment, that position is perfect for the progress that will follow.
Most people try many systems of exercise and yoga--going from one to the next and the next and the next. Because of the high degree of focus on uniqueness, Positive Energy Yoga can become an adaptable, lifelong program that a person can use anywhere, anytime and for any reason.
There is hardly a time in a person's life when they cannot benefit from more Positive Energy.
Most people rely on words--especially when what they are trying to convey may not exist, and therefore would not be known without the words. True positive energy does not need words. Words can, and often do, inspire, but, where and when positive energy exists, one can feel it--nothing has to be said. When we receive positive energy, we usually know it--and because of it, we feel better, we do better, and we are better. Results always speak for themselves.
People, over time, can learn to think more positively, and there's an infinite number of sources from which to gather positive and inspirational things to say. But the highest level of positive energy comes from a different part of the mind. The people who naturally radiate high levels of positive energy did not develop it by practice or learn it from literature--they were born with it--and usually remain unchanged and unaffected by credit given to them for their ability.
While everything that needs to be said is said for an enjoyable, effective, and fulfilling class--lectures, philosophies, discourses and preaching are not necessary in Positive Energy Yoga®.
Positive energy is transferred in its most powerful form when it is unspoken.
Regarding illnesses, medical conditions, and injuries, Positive Energy Yoga will not make any claims beyond the natural, proven, expected benefits of proper exercise. However, on occasion, some people who practice Positive Energy Yoga have reported that certain illnesses, prior injuries, and other negative body conditions, have improved or completely reversed—it happens.
Positive Energy Yoga was created to serve two purposes at the same time, which are usually accomplished at different times, in separate places, with different people.
The proper exercise, properly performed, produces proven health benefits, longer life potential, increased strength, flexibility, stamina, and clarity of mind, but does not necessarily produce the degree of increased positive energy, that a person needs to resolve certain issues, achieve certain goals, and generate new ideas.
From the purely common sense perspective, it takes increased Positive Energy or whatever one wishes to call it, to resolve negative circumstances in one’s life, attain a new level of creativity, and to achieve new goals.
For people with increasingly active and demanding lifestyles, Positive Energy Yoga was designed to provide all the health and life-giving benefits of exercise, and, at the same time, the inspiration to generate the Positive Energy a person needs to resolve personal or professional difficulties, and attain the next level of desired goals.
